How to Onboard as a New DBNAlliance Member?

The DBNAlliance is a not-for-profit open exchange network that enables businesses to securely and efficiently exchange electronic invoices and documents across different systems, both within North America and internationally.

Joining the DBNAlliance provides businesses with a standardized exchange framework, allowing for seamless document exchange (such as invoicing) between partners, regardless of the technology or platform used.

Members include service providers and large customers like Microsoft, Chevron, and Halliburton, ensuring access to a broad ecosystem of partners. The network is industry-led, focusing on growth in North America, without public authority involvement.

Below you will find a broad explanation of the onboarding process for new members:

Onboarding as a new DBNAlliance Member

  1. SML Registration: New members register by providing details (such as partner identifiers) and choosing between three Service Metadata Locator (SML) domains—Production, Test, or Pilot. These domains support different stages of commercial transactions, from development to live operations.
  2. Digital Certificate Issuance: Members are issued digital certificates for secure connections using the AS4 protocol. DBNAlliance serves as the Certificate Authority, ensuring data authenticity and encryption.
  3. SMP Services: Members can either use DBNAlliance’s shared services for SMP (Service Metadata Publishing) or manage their own SMP systems. This registration process ensures smooth communication between members on the network.
  4. Accreditation: Access points must undergo an accreditation process to ensure compatibility with other points on the network. The Shared Services Team assists in guiding businesses through this accreditation process, verifying that systems are ready for live exchanges and transactions.

Next Step: Continuous Engagement in Committees

Once onboarded, members can participate in DBNAlliance committees such as the Technical and Marketing Committees, which influence the network’s development.

Members also gain access to GitHub repositories for up-to-date technical specifications and can promote their services on the alliance’s website.

In summary, onboarding with DBNAlliance enables businesses to join a robust e-invoicing ecosystem, improving efficiency and compliance while ensuring secure document exchanges across platforms.
